These Australian Curriculum linked resources have been designed to support teachers to help students understand the effects of the forced removal of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people from their families, communities and Country. These resources draw substantially on the Bringing them Home report.

Year 6: Humanities and Social Sciences (History)

Students will develop an understanding of the experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples since the arrival of British settlers in 1788. They will investigate a variety of government policies enacted to govern Indigenous Australians. In particular, students will explore the effects of the policies of forced removal of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their families.

Year 9: History

Students will further their understanding of the impacts of British settlement and expansion on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures and practices. They will investigate a variety of government policies enacted to govern Indigenous Australians. In particular, students will explore the frameworks and justifications used to forcibly remove Aboriginal and Torres Strait children from their families and develop an understanding of some of the common experiences shared by members of the Stolen Generations.
